We fly our crew to DFW and plan every shoot around three things: the 100-degree weeks, spring storm season and the controlled airspace over most of Dallas.

When to shoot in DFW, across the year

Based on National Weather Service normals (1991 to 2020) and tornado counts since 1950. For planning only, not a forecast. Select any month.

April and May

About 55% of North and Central Texas tornadoes from 1950 to 2025 came in these two months, and rainfall peaks in May, averaging 4.78 inches. Landscaping looks its best, so we shoot but hold weather days.

July and August

DFW averages 7.4 days of 100 degrees or more in July and 9.7 in August. Exteriors at first light; interiors through the afternoon; twilight after.

October and November

Mild days and steadier weather: our first choice for hero exteriors and aerials.

December to February

Most freezing nights fall here, 10.6 on average in January. Short days and crisp light, good weeks for interiors.

Most of these take days, not hours, so we start them the day a shoot is booked.

Texas light is harsh, so use it on purpose

I was a photographer before I ran an agency, and Nikon Europe named me European Photographer of the Year in 2018. Hard midday sun is something I plan around rather than fight.

In a DFW summer I would put exteriors in the first hour after sunrise, interiors in the middle of the day, and the hero shot at twilight. That rhythm keeps the crew safe and the footage consistent.

Footage only matters if it sells. On a European villa development under NDA in 2025, with our team on the marketing, 2 of 3 villas sold 70 days before completion, $17M in sales.

Questions about shooting real estate in Dallas

Usually yes. Much of Dallas sits inside DFW's Class B airspace, and Love Field lies within its surface area, so a Part 107 pilot needs an airspace authorization before takeoff. Our pilots request it for the exact site and altitude.

Texas Government Code chapter 423 lists lawful purposes for drone images, including consent of the owner or lawful occupant of the property shown. We get written consent for your property and keep neighbors out of frame.

October and November give the steadiest light and weather. Spring looks greenest but brings storms; July and August bring the most 100-degree days, so we shoot at sunrise and twilight.

Not for private property with the owner's permission. The City of Dallas requires a commercial filming permit when a shoot uses public property, streets, sidewalks or parks, or needs traffic control.

Our films are priced from $15,000 up to $50,000. Travel and any permits appear as their own lines, agreed before booking. Stills and short social edits can come from the same shoot days.
